Water Rescue

• The advantages to rescue are specifically based around the time it takes to get to a survivor of any accident, time is crucial.  
• Accidents at sea are generally in the worst conditions. Where a swimmer from a rescue helicopter may have to be placed a set distance away from the actual accident with large swells, wind and rain raging around them.  
• The rescuer can be guided directly to the survivor(s) by the rescue co-ordinator in a hovering aircraft that can be positioned in the best advantage point available. The rescue swimmer can concentrate only on swimming and not have to think if they are heading in the right direction. They can solely concentrate on getting to the survivor as quickly as possible.  
• The rescue swimmer also has the comfort of knowing they have eyes on them with communication which can warn them of any dangers which they may not see. With the correct questions supplied by the rescue co-ordinator, they can get an answer back to the aircraft with a hand signal. (e.g. Are you ready to be picked up, hand signal yes.)  
• The rescue co-ordinator also has constant communication to the swimmer rescuer to keep him psychologically equipped for any rescue. At present, rescues are done without a communication system, with only hand signals given from the helicopter to the rescue swimmer which direction to go. This has two disadvantages; the rescue swimmer has to stop to look at the helicopter to get directions and also it will only work in the day time. If a night rescue is required, there is no directions from the helicopter at all once in the water.
  

Tow in Surfing – Rescue

• Big wave surfers around the world (i.e. Jaws) have land based advantage points that can reduce the time taken to recover a surfer that has fallen and not been seen from the rescue jet skis. The rescue jet skis, through Headzone, can be given instant instruction from the beach as soon as the surfer re-appears. This is still only one way communication that is needed in this particular situation, because of the rescue co-ordinator having the best advantage point.
